Findadmission.com

The project

Findadmission.com is an admissions product run by Worldview International Group. It was already live with an existing codebase when I joined the group on contract in April 2020.

It was my first engagement with the group, and it ran from April to November 2020. Before that I had spent seven years freelancing, mostly as the only developer on each contract. This was different: joining a product that other people had built and would keep running.

My role

I worked as a web application developer on the existing product, working in PHP and JavaScript with REST APIs. The job was to add features, fix bugs and improve performance on a codebase someone else had written.

That is a different skill from starting fresh. You read before you change anything. You learn why things were built the way they were, and you ship small, safe changes rather than rewrites.

What came of it

The work on Findadmission.com earned me the lead on the group’s next product. Seven months after I joined, I was asked to lead the rebuild of Find Visa Counsellor. That became a 28-month project: a Nuxt.js rebuild, a custom chat service and four native apps.

After that came Worldview Pro, which the same team took from MVP to launch on web, iOS and Android.
