Fractional leadership

Who this is for

You have a team, or a set of suppliers, but no one leading it. Developers wait for decisions. The agency sends reports nobody reads. The partners or founders end up managing the web and marketing themselves, in the gaps between their real jobs.

A full-time head of digital is a big hire to get wrong. This is the same role, two or three days a week, with someone who has done it before. I have led distributed teams of three to ten people since 2020, from a team of WordPress and Laravel developers at Staff Asia to the engineering team behind Worldview Pro.

How it works

• Audit, weeks 1–2. I read the code, the analytics and the backlog, and talk to the people doing the work.
• Plan, week 2. A short written plan: what to fix, what to build, what to stop, and what it costs.
• Lead, from week 3. I run the team on agreed days each week: planning, 1:1s, code review, supplier calls and the decisions that have been waiting.
• Hand over, final two weeks. Documentation, and either a team that runs itself or a clear brief for the permanent hire.

A typical engagement runs six to twelve months.

What you get

• Roadmap and quarterly plan, so the team knows what matters this quarter and what can wait.
• Weekly team leadership and 1:1s, with written updates instead of extra meetings.
• Hiring and vendor decisions: who to hire, which suppliers to keep, and what to ask of them.
• A board-ready monthly report, written for partners and founders who do not want jargon.

What it is not

It is not a permanent job with a different name. The goal is a team that can carry the work without me, and I plan the exit from the start. It is also not a way to add a developer: if you need hands on the code, hands-on development or forward-deployed engineering fit better.

Questions people ask

How is it priced? On my day rate, £650 a day excluding VAT, booked as a fixed number of days per week.

Can you work with our existing agency or developers? Yes. Often the job is to make the existing suppliers work better, not replace them. I audit first and tell you honestly which is which.

Do you work on-site? Yes, across the UK, and hybrid or remote anywhere. An engagement can mix on-site days with remote work, whatever suits the team.
